Our skilled garden trainers offer workshops on dozens of topics, so if you can think of a workshop that is not listed below, we can work with you to meet the needs of your community.

Chicken Tractors: Chicken Coops that Move

St. Augustine’s School, 1176 Franklin Avenue (between 167th and 168th St.), Bronx

Come to this hands-on workshop to learn about how to build and use a chicken tractor. A chicken tractor is a small chicken coop without a floor. You can move it around the garden to give your chickens new areas to peck and scratch. We will build a chicken tractor that is 4 feet wide, 8 feet long and 3 feet tall – a perfect size to fit over most garden beds. Let your chickens clean up your old plants for you and fertilize at the same time!

Directions: Take the B or D train to 167th Street and walk or take the Bx35 Bus. Taking the bus from the train: Take the Bx35 bus from 167th Street and Grand Concourse heading towards Hunt Point. Get off at Franklin Ave and E 168th Street. Walk half a block towards 167th Street. Walking from the train: Walk East on 167th (towards Sherman Avenue) for 15 blocks. Turn left on Franklin. The school is in the middle of the block. Find directions from door to door at www.hopstop.com.
